Birdwing Butterfly Pendant In 18k Rose Gold
The birdwing is one of Australia's largest butterflies, with a wingspan of up to 160mm in females and 13cm in males - crikey! Males and females differ in appearance. Females are the less spectacular of the species with dark brown or black wings with extensive white, cream or yellowish markings. The upper forewing of males is black with a striking and distinctive iridescent green leading edge, while the upper wing is predominantly iridescent green with black spots. The underside of the male's wings are black with extensive green or blue-green and yellow markings with black spots. These butterflies are quite simply magnificent and inhabit tropical North Queensland and PNG. The pendant weighs 1.7 grams and measures a petite 12mm in height (from the loop to the bottom of the birdwing) by 15mm in width.
