Silver Carved Sepik Mask Earrings
This product is no longer available.
These earrings are made in sterling silver and have been detailed to look like the tribal masks from the Sepik area of Papua New Guinea using the intaglio style and have been made in Australia. The Sepik tribal masks are a mask that hold a story. These masks are first hand made by the Papua people from mud and then designed with unique details such as shells and grasses. These details create a mask that represents the peoples spirits and are large in size. During the ceremony of boyhood to manhood the tribal elders will attach these masks to their dance costumes so that they may become the spirit teacher. An interesting fact about these masks is that they are not actually worn over the face, as they have no eyeholes, but are instead worn in front of the torso.
