This pendant is inspired by the DukDuk dancers from New Britain in Papua New Guinea and has been beautifully made from sterling silver. The DukDuk are an interesting and macabre story. The DukDuk are a religious and political secret society that centred around the spirits of the male DukDuk and the female Tubuan. These spirits were invoked by members of society who would wear these cone shaped masks, made from cane and fibre, with leaves that hung down to cover their torsos, leaving only their legs visible. Only males were allowed to wear these masks and if any women were to look upon them the DukDuk would enact justice upon them. They only appeared on a full moon and were considered Devine beings whose judgment could not be questioned.
